About Amplitude Training
Amplitude training is a neurofeedback technique that focuses on modifying the brain’s electrical activity by training specific brainwave frequencies in targeted regions. It helps to address various symptoms and enhance cognitive functioning by either increasing or decreasing the amplitude of specific brainwaves. This type of training is tailored to the client’s unique brain activity profile, as determined by the QEEG assessment.
For example, if the QEEG shows an excess of theta waves (commonly associated with drowsiness or lack of focus) in certain areas, amplitude training can help the client reduce these slower waves, promoting greater alertness and concentration. Conversely, if a client has insufficient alpha waves (linked to calmness and relaxation), training can increase alpha activity to support a relaxed yet focused mental state.
During a neurofeedback session, sensors placed on the scalp measure the real-time amplitude of brainwaves in the target region. The neurofeedback software displays this activity on a screen, allowing the client to see their brainwave changes. The client then engages in visual or auditory feedback, often in the form of a game or video that responds to the desired brainwave activity. This encourages the brain to adapt its behavior, reinforcing positive changes over time.
Amplitude training is an effective tool within a broader neurofeedback treatment plan, as it allows us to address specific brainwave imbalances identified in the QEEG. The clinical team monitors progress regularly, adjusting protocols to meet the client’s evolving needs and support long-term improvements in mood, focus, and mental clarity.
